book'n'keep App Reviews
Looks great
Just downloaded to my iMac, but hoping you will add an icloud ability to use on iPhone please.
Don’t be fooled by the slick, modern graphics. This program crashes every few entries. Restarts are quick, but I shouldn’t have to do that at all. I also quickly realized that although my business is small, I really do need double-entry accounting, so this just isn’t going to cut it.
Couldnt even open a simple bank transaction. User guide explains nothing about how to actually DO anything. I dont have time to CHAT on facebook to get instructions. Create a real users manual, and maybe your app may fly.
It was kind of difficult to find this app in the app store. However, I am glad that I finally did. Every other app I found had a terrible interface, functionality that didnt actually work, or included features that were just not necessary. This is a simplified, yet robust application to keep the books. Clean interface, simple to use, easiest configuration out of all of the book keeping apps that I have tried. This one is a winner.
As the owner/operator of my own business, I find "booknkeep" fits my needs almost perfectly. Its a single entry accounting app thats quick and easy to use. All I really need "booknkeep" to do is keep track of my debits and credits, and that it does easily. Once you enter your customers and vendors into the app, theyre just a pull down menu away for your next credit or debit entry. The less typing I have to do the better! There is some set up that you have to do before you start using "booknkeep", Business info, Payment info, Expense and Income Categories, etc….but its not complicated. It shoulnt take you long to be up and running. I make between 6 to 8 service calls on a work day. At the end of the day, it takes me less than ten minutes to enter them all into "booknkeep". There are days when it only takes me five! My accounting needs are simple, I basically just use the "Payables", "Receivables", and "Reports" sections of the program. But "book nkeep does do more. There is also a "Assets" and "Bank" sections that I cant comment on becasue I have not used them as of yet. I do intend to start using the asset section soon. Teischi, the software company that puts out booknkeep, has had a number of updates since I started using the program. In each version, the program has gained functionality and user interface improvements. They are also very quick to fix any bugs that pop up, (which have been very few). All in all, Im very satisfied with my experiences with "booknkeep.
The product is stable and the price is reasonable, but there are many opportunities to make input easier that have been missed. For instance, when entering payments, shouldn’t the default be that one is going to pay the whole bill and less than that the exception? Instead I have to enter the amount twice (payable and payment) for every transaction. Similarly, if one normally pays all bills from one bank account, why not set that as a default value, changed by exception? When “copying" a transaction, the payment info is not included. "Recurring transactions" is a nice idea, but the amount cannot be simply modified from time to time—as all costs are. When entering a vendor, the program does not accept a few characters to find the vendor, but instead one has to constantly pick from a growing list. There are a few odd bugs, such as the program can become exceptionally slow to add a new vendor, but a simple restart clears the issue. The “remarks" entry can in some instances clear the payment information, but it never crashes. I use the program to capture the income and expenses of a 6-unit apartment building, which I consider accounting lite. Typically, I enter bills and payments at the same time, as there is little reason to pay net 30 the water, recycling, taxes, etc., so the repetitious bill and payment entry takes double-entry accounting too seriously. I’ve used the program for over a year and I despare of seeing an upgrade to make these annoyances go away. When the right alternative presents itself, I will abandon Book’n’keep.
